Miley Tucker Frost is an American artist who created original sculpture by private, corporate, and institutional commission. The original models were sculpted in her studio to actual scale in clay or wax and then cast in metal by the foundry lost-wax method.
She is represented in collections such as the White House Oval Office (two terms, Reagan Administration) and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, [1] the Smithsonian American History Museum,[2] the Library of Congress,[3] the George W. Bush Presidential Library,[4] the University of Texas at Austin,[5][6][7][8] the city of Leipzig, Germany,[9][10] and various foreign embassies in the United States.
Her work has been commissioned by the U.S. Department of Defense,[11] U.S. Department of the Treasury/Bureau of Engraving and Printing-Western Facility,[12] U.S. Navy League,[13] and the FBI,[14] and by entities such as Trammell Crow Company,[15] Rosewood Corporation,[16][17][18] Lincoln Property Company,[19][20] Hyatt Hotels,[21] Century City Plaza Hotel,[22] John Brown University,[23]the University of Texas at Austin,[24][25][26][27] Southern Methodist University,[28] the National Presbyterian Church, Washington, DC,[29] and by many individuals for private collections.
She is the artist most noted for creating the original Type1 reverse of the U.S. Treasury’s Family of Eagles design for the American Eagle Gold Bullion coin minted from 1986-2021.[30][31][32][33][34] Her design of the Family of Eagles was mandated by a bipartisan Act of Congress (Public Law 99-185, December 17, 1985), which both chambers of Congress passed unanimously in 1985.[35][36][37]
She created public monuments such as the “Peace Through Strength Globe,” entrance of the Drug Enforcement Administration Headquarters, Crystal City, VA[38]; the “Seal of the President” in stainless steel, at the George W. Bush Presidential Library, Dallas, Texas[39]; the “Founders’ View” at The Crescent, Dallas, Texas[40]; the “SMU Mustangs” for the Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas[41]; and the “Hope” and Centennial Sculpture for the University of Texas, Austin, Texas.[42][43] Most of her work focused on patriotic, classical, and religious themes, while portraying the dignity and hope of traditional American values through historic and futuristic artistic statements. Primarily a self-taught artist, Miley Frost produced her art from 1977 until 1996 in Dallas, when she moved to the Washington D.C. area to continue her work there.
